Expert Review & Verdict

The Verdict
Our Verdict: HBO Max Spain remains the undisputed king of prestige drama and Warner Bros. cinema, but its sleeper value for sports fans is the €5/month "Sports Add-on." This cheap bolt-on unlocks the Eurosport channels, giving you a legitimate, budget-friendly way to watch Grand Slam tennis, major cycling tours, and MotoGP without signing a costly traditional cable contract. The Premium tier is the only one worth it if you own a 4K TV, as the lower tiers cap out at 1080p. The main frustration is the homepage, which still feels cluttered, and the fact that you cannot watch LaLiga or Liga Endesa here unless you spring for the separate, much pricier "Max + DAZN" bundle.

In-Depth Platform Analysis & Coverage
In Spain, HBO Max (now operating under the streamlined "Max" branding) holds its ground by doing two things very well: hosting an unmatched catalog of HBO originals and Warner Bros. movies, and offering a highly affordable gateway to niche live sports.
Unlike the UK or US versions of the service, the base Spanish subscription does not include domestic football or basketball. Those rights belong to DAZN and Movistar+. However, Warner Bros. Discovery leverages its Eurosport assets in Spain through a simple €5.00/month "Complemento Deportes" (Sports Add-on). For the price of a coffee, you get live access to the Australian Open, Roland Garros, the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a España, and MotoGP. It is arguably the best value sports streaming deal in the country.
The pricing structure is straightforward. The €6.99 Basic tier is fine for casual viewers who do not mind ads. The €10.99 Standard tier is where most people should land, as it removes ads and allows offline downloads. If you have a modern OLED or QLED TV, you have to jump to the €15.99 Premium tier to actually get 4K, HDR10, and Dolby Atmos.
The platform’s weaknesses are purely organizational. The search algorithm still has a bad habit of burying older, niche catalog titles under massive promotional banners for new releases. Furthermore, customer support remains heavily automated, which can make resolving billing glitches or add-on activation issues a slow, frustrating process.
What We Like (Pros)
- The €5 sports add-on is a massive bargain for tennis, cycling, and MotoGP fans
- Clear, scalable pricing with genuine discounts if you commit to annual billing
- Excellent, stable streaming infrastructure with true 4K and HDR playback
- Ad-free Standard tier hits the perfect balance of price and features
What to Consider (Cons)
- Basic and Standard tiers are capped at 1080p, wasting the potential of 4K TVs
- No LaLiga or Liga Endesa in the base plan (requires the expensive Max + DAZN bundle)
- Homepage UI is cluttered and prioritizes promoted new releases over catalog depth
- Customer support is overly automated and slow to resolve account-specific issues
